When first exploring, original settlers lived along rivers and creeks. The rivers and creeks were usually lined on one side or the other with various species of trees. In time the settlers used the wood to build their towns, their homes, and then their furniture. The maple tree was plentiful and strong and therefore was used to build furniture that would last a lifetime. Hard maple is naturally white with some mineral deposits and if left in its natural state, over time it is enhanced with a beautiful patina.
